Toto Wolff tells Lewis Hamilton what he can’t say anymore as Mercedes battle on

Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025

Toto Wolff doesn’t want to hear Lewis Hamilton complain about the positioning of Mercedes’ cockpit anymore. The Silver Arrows team principal has pledged to rectify Hamilton’s biggest grievance with the W14 and asserts that the team must “go back to basics” if they hope to challenge for the F1 title next year.

“I listened to the team and that was the direction that they said that we should go. Had I known the feeling that I would have in it, it wouldn’t have happened. It has to change for the future. 100 per cent.”

Wolff has since vowed to make the correct adjustments to next season’s car in order to give Hamilton and George Russell a smoother ride in 2024. Speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Wolff said: “We have to get back to basics. I don’t want to hear Lewis say anymore ‘My cockpit is too far forward’. We know what we understand and will not pay attention to what we do not understand.

“Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren and us are all in the same situation. At least we are second in the constructors’ championship, because after all these years we have learned how to optimise our results. It’s just that no one comes close to Verstappen.”
