Joe Marler tells ex-England star to ‘eat s***’ after being slammed at World Cup

Borthwick backs Curry after racial slur controversy calling it a 'World Rugby matter'

Joe Marler has hit back at former England fly-half Andy Goode, telling the pundit to “eat s***” and labelling him a “w*** bucket” in a social media spat. Goode lambasted Marler for snubbing World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont while picking up his bronze medal following Friday’s Rugby World Cup third-place play-off win over Argentina, producing a fiery response from Marler.

Video footage emerged of several England players collecting their medals at the Stade de France before shaking hands with Beaumont, but Marler instead appeared to walk straight past the chief. World Rugby have been widely criticised for their new Nations Championship international tournament that was announced this week.

Marler’s reasons for the snub have not been revealed, but Goode took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to call out the England prop. “Joe Marler showing a lack of respect for Bill Beaumont and walking straight past without shaking his hand, sums him up really,” he wrote.

During England’s celebrations following victory over Argentina and the end to their World Cup, Marler took the time to reply to the jibe as he wrote to Goode: “Eat s***, w*** bucket. Let’s catch up soon x,” accompanied by a lemon emoji as he attempted to reignite their feud. Goode replied: “Grow up Joe.”

After Steve Borthwick’s side had claimed a 30-24 win over Fiji in the quarter-finals, Goode, who made 17 caps for England and over 400 club appearances for teams including Leicester Tigers and Worcester Warriors, criticised Marler for his defending.

On X, he wrote: “Marler asleep in defence probably thinking about trying to be unfunny…” Marler then fired back with: “Appreciate the feedback mate,” alongside a kissing emoji, before later adding: “And give me a shout if you need a ticket for next week mate – my shout.”

Even though he was not named in Borthwick’s squad to face Argentina as the head coach made several changes and focused on the new generation ahead of next year’s Six Nations, Marler still made plenty of headlines after the match.

The veteran forward looked back at this year’s Six Nations in a message to England fans as he admitted that the team were “c***” five years ago. But after a positive World Cup he is optimistic for the future.

“Bonne Soiree (good evening),” Marler said. “I just want to say on behalf of the team, to all the fans that have supported us out here and back at home, it has been phenomenal. It’s been a brilliant, brilliant journey.

“To come five months ago where we were c***, to start building a new England, there’s plenty of things to be hopeful for in the future so get behind the team moving forward, love you guys, bye!”
