Chelsea willing to sell Reece James ‘for the right price’ as £34.5m offer ready

Chelsea could be convinced to sell Reece James if the ‘right price’ is put on the table with Real Madrid ready to test their resolve, according to sensational reports in Spain. The Blues have gone through a huge transition over the past 12 months with James now the longest-serving player at Stamford Bridge despite being just 23 years of age.

Even more new signings were made this summer as Chelsea took their spending past £1billion under Todd Boehly. They’ve managed to recoup some of that outlay by selling the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic.

But Chelsea may well need to balance the books even further in 2024 by offloading some more senior players. James is arguably the most valuable asset in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, although his injury troubles have continued this season.

The full-back picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool on the opening day of the season with Mauricio Pochettino forced to use Malo Gusto as his replacement. James was attracting interest from Real during the summer transfer window, but no bid was forthcoming from the Spanish giants.

However, it seems as though Real are building towards making an approach next year. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Real are ready to table an offer worth £34.5million for James.

The report does state that Chelsea have ‘no intention’ of selling their captain currently, although it’s suggested they could be convinced to change their stance. His market value is said to be closer to £51.5m, a price Real are reportedly unwilling to pay.

But the La Liga side will likely have to break the bank to prise James away from Stamford Bridge. James is regarded as one of the best right-backs in the world when fit and he’s set to be a huge part of Pochettino’s plans for the future.

He’s also not one of the two Chelsea defenders they’re reportedly looking to cash in on in the New Year. It’s been claimed both Trevoh Chalobah and Marc Cucurella have been told that they will be sold in the January transfer window.

Both defenders were linked with moves away in the summer, but no deals ever materialised.
