Nick Kyrgios has once again stated his desire to quit tennis less than a week after he ruled himself out of the Australian Open.

Kyrgios, 28, has endured a frustrating 2023 with the Australian not featuring at any of the majors due to wrist and knee injuries.

Speaking on the On Purpose podcast, Kyrgios says he would have walked away from tennis already if it hadn’t been for the support of his loved ones.

‘If it was up to me,’ the Wimbledon finalist said, ‘I don’t really want to play any more, to be honest. But I have to, almost. I have so much more to give.

‘I’m exhausted, I’m tired. I’ve had three surgeries now. I’m only 28 years old. I always wanted to be able to have a family and not be in pain. When I get up, I can’t walk without pain.

The Australian has endured a frustrating year riddled with various injuries

‘Even if I won [Wimbledon], people would be like, ‘Now do it again,’ Kyrgios explained. ‘That’s the rat-race of life. How much is enough? I’m very content with my life, I have more than enough to enjoy.’

Kyrgios announced that he would be missing the first major of 2024 on OnlyFans, where he reflected on his year from hell.

‘Obviously had a really tough year with injury, had that knee surgery and came back a little too soon, set me back a little bit,’ Kyrgios told his subscribers last week.

‘So, this is a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open.’

Kyrgios’s absence from his home tournament is a major blow for Tennis Australia, although a host of big names are expected to play.

Rafael Nadal, Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber and Emma Raducanu all feature on the entry list.
