Stefanos Tsitsipas ‘struggled to get out of bed’ as Greek star provides update

Stefanos Tsitsipas has revealed that it was difficult to get out of bed after picking up an injury that forced him to pull out of the ATP Finals. The Greek star was booed off of the court when he retired just 17 minutes into his second round-robin match. In a new update, Tsitsipas admitted that he still wasn’t at 100 per cent.

Tsitsipas’ season ended in disappointment when a back injury forced him to give up on his campaign in Turin as he forfeited his match against Holger Rune while trailing 1-2. The world No 6 later claimed that he had been given the green light to play but the pain became too much and he withdrew from the tournament altogether.

The 25-year-old is now feeling better but confessed that he struggled to get out of bed when the pain was at its worst in the days following his withdrawal in Turin. “The injury was painful, really painful, because I wasn’t able to finish the last tournament of the year,” the 10-time title winner told the Adelaide Advertiser.

“So it had a big impact on my body. In the days following the ATP Finals, I found it hard to wake up and get out of bed. In fact, the pain I felt for one or two weeks was very strong.”

Addressing his progress, Tsitsipas continued: “It’s getting better, I’m getting better.

“I’m doing lots of things every day to reduce the pain I have as much as possible and as quickly as possible to get back to normal. It will take a little time. I’m not at 100 per cent yet.”
