Ryder Cup fans angry at ‘beyond bad’ TV coverage with standout complaint

Golfing fans accused TV companies of prioritising money over coverage during the first day of the 2023 Ryder Cup. The TV coverage of the tournament, which is being held at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, has been “bombarded with commercials” according to viewers who have reacted in anger over the lack of action being shown.

With the tournament finally underway fans were treated to an opening day that lived up to expectations. Despite the six-hour time difference between Rome and Eastern time in the United States, fans bore witness to a thrilling day that saw Team Europe come out on top with a 4-0 sweep – a first in European Ryder Cup history.

The fourball results saw the likes of Jon Rahm and Nico Hojgaard tie with Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka, Viktor Hovland and Tyrell Hatton halve their match against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, and Justin Rose and Bob MacIntyre also tie against Max Homa and Wyndham Clark.

The biggest result of the day came thanks to Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick’s partnership. The pair put in an impressive display to see off Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele to give Europe the win.

Despite the action, fans on social media felt compelled to voice their displeasure against the tournament’s TV coverage, complaining about the lack of shots and the increase in commercials.

“Biggest event in golf happens every two years and we are just bombarded with commercials,” one user posted on X. “Gotta be a way to offer a commercial free version that shows every shot that people can pay for.”

Another fan added to the claim: “This coverage is brutal. Ryder Cup only happens every two years and we have seen more commercials than golf shots.”

Some fans have even considered giving up on the event already. “@rydercup @USANetwork why are we showing 5 golf shots then getting 8 commercials,” a post on X added.

“This is beyond bad coverage. The best golf event that we get once every 2 years and you guys decide that money is more important than your golf fans. I’m done watching this c**p.”

Fans will be hoping for better coverage tomorrow with some exciting new pairings taking to the greens, including Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, and Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka to name but a few.
