Databank

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

With Harry Cobden needed at Ascot, DARYL JACOB has been handed the ride on BRAVEMANSGAME (Haydock, 3.00) in a race he has won three times before. The weighing room veteran also has chances with I LOVE MY BAIE (Haydock, 12.05) and CARNFUNNOCK (Haydock, 1.15)

TRAINER TO FOLLOW

NICKY HENDERSON is flying, with three winners at last weekend’s Cheltenham fixture contributing to seven victors from his last 15 runners. Saturday’s ammunition includes EXCELLO (Ascot, 12.55), SHISHKIN (Ascot, 1.30), THEATRE GLORY (Ascot, 2.05), TRADECRAFT (Ascot, 3.50) and PARK HILL DANCER (Haydock, 1.15).

BIG DAY FOR

Peter Atkinson, who trains only two horses on his North Yorkshire farm. FINGAL’S hill (Haydock, 1.15) shoots for a first prize of over £25,000 and will try to maintain Atkinson’s impressive record of three winners and a third from four runners this season.

WHAT’S IN A NAME

WILLIAM CODY

(Huntingdon, 2.48)

The Pam Sly-trained dual course winner has been given the real name of the soldier, hunter and showman better known as Buffalo Bill.

WATCH OUT FOR

APPLE away (Haydock, 1.50)

Ended last season winning a Grade One novice hurdle at Aintree. She faces Gaillard Du Mesnil, the Grand National third, on her novice chasing bow and ideally needs further. But the mare receives heaps of weight and her stable expect her to flourish.

TRAINER TARGET

Charlie Appleby has won the Stay Golden Novice Stakes twice in the last four years. He unleashes James Doyle-ridden debutant BOld style (Wolverhampton, 5.45).

Robin Goodfellow Best Bets – by Steve Ryder

In the Hurst Park Handicap Chase at Ascot (3.15), Boothill (NAP) looks to hold strong claims for making it four from four in handicap chases. Victorious in this race last season, the Harry Fry-trained gelding won over this course and distance on his reappearance, beating Grade One winning chaser First Flow by four lengths off a mark of 149.

Many of his rivals reoppose here, with a swing in the weights, but it was a dominant performance and he is expected to win despite racing off a career-high mark of 155.

Earlier, at Haydock, Wakool (NB) bids to improve on his seventh-place finish in the Betfair Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle (2.20) last year. The seven-year-old went on to win the Grade Two Rendlesham Hurdle over course and distance in February and runs in the race this year off a 2lb lower mark. With a first-time visor replacing cheekpieces, he should outrun his odds at a big price.

The Wizard of Odds – by Chris Baker

2.05 ASCOT

Blueking D’Oroux (NAP) followed up his victory at this course in April with a very respectable second-place finish at Aintree. He has since made a winning seasonal reappearance at Cheltenham. 4-1

2.20 HAYDOCK

Bold Endeavour (EW) was consistent last season and finished fifth in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. He ran well again when third at Newbury earlier this month. 20-1

6.15 WOLVERHAMPTON

Urban Sprawl, third in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, can gain a deserved success after running well in all four of his races on the All Weather to date. 4-1
