Fans love Freddie Flintoff’s speech for Adil Rashid in first clips since crash

Fans loved Freddie Flintoff’s touching speech to England cricketer Adil Rashid in one of his first clips since his horror car crash.

Flintoff has returned to help out with the England cricket setup as he continues his recovery following a terrifying crash on the set of Top Gear last year where he suffered significant facial and rib injuries after flipping an open-top, three-wheeled car at 130mph last December.

The England legend was previously spotted at The Ashes in the summer and was once again a member of the coaching staff during England’s T20 series in the West Indies, leaving fans delighted to see him on the mend and looking well after a tough year.

In a video posted by England, Flintoff paid tribute to Rashid in a moving speech as he handed the World Cup winner his cap commemorating a century of T20i games, he said: “I remember you coming into the side as this young lad, full of mystery, full of wonder, full of mischief and loads and loads of ability.

“Over the years, everyone in this group: myself and anybody who’s played with you has been so proud at how you’ve gone about your business – a multiple World Cup winner, the best in the business at what you do around the world but more importantly, Rash, you as a person.

“You’re such an integral part of this squad and the other thing is you give back, whether it’s in Bradford with your academies (or) the other day I saw you spending all this time with a leg-spinner, a young kid, and just coaching him. To me that is just as important as everything else you do.

“To me, you epitomise everything that England cricket is about. It’s a privilege for me to tour with you, it’s a privilege for me to give you this cap. So Rash, come and get this cap, (it is) 100 but you’ve not stopped yet, there’s plenty more in you. Well done, son.”

Flintoff returned to the public spotlight in the summer and some fans have said he’s looking ‘miles better’ after the scarring on his face and chin was visible when he first joined up with England. Other fans paid tribute to his speech and relationship with England’s current crop.

One comment said: “Flintoff can’t half do a speech”, a second said: “Great speech. Glad to see him doing so well.” A third added: “Andrew Flintoff. Just what a bloke. Great to see him looking good and as ever being the inspiration he is. Some man,” while a fourth wrote: “Wow Freddie is some coach, great speech from a great man. Well done Rash on 100.”
