Freddie Flintoff is all smiles as legend is pictured again after Top Gear crash

Freddie Flintoff was all smiles on Sunday as he laughed and joked with England players on his return to the public eye.

The cricketing icon is working as a consultant with the ODI squad during their series against New Zealand and his appearance on Saturday was his first in public since December of last year.

The 45-year-old was injured while filming Top Gear at the show's test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, Surrey, when his open-topped Morgan Super 3 car flipped over.

Flintoff was seen with visible scars on his face having been lucky to survive according to his son, after being rushed to hospital at the time of the incident.

Flintoff's son Corey told the Mail last December that he and his family were "shocked" to hear news of the accident.

He added: "He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive. It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK."

Flintoff, born Andrew, shares Corey with wife Rachael, as well as daughter Holly.

Meanwhile, Stuart Broad admitted it was great to have the England legend back around the squad. He said: "I saw him at Cardiff and I had ten minutes with him. He was in really fine form.

"He's been doing some work with the England Under-19s, which he really enjoyed and he'd just arrived in Cardiff to settle into this group for this series.

"Freddie Flintoff would have inspired this side back in '05 and before so he's an icon of English cricket and a legend of the game. So just to be able to spend some time around him and pick his brain and feel the aura he has within the group.

"The opportunity for him to pull on the Three Lions shirt again is really special."
