F1: Verstappen 'most nervous he's felt' when learning to drift cars
Aston Martin will be bringing several big upgrades to their cars for this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, including a new floor and aerodynamic changes. The news will be music to Fernando Alonso’s ears after urging his team to “speed up” their in-season development as he and Aston Martin battle it out with Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes on the grid.
“We have some new parts. I’m not sure exactly what, you will see it on the documents that the FIA is releasing,” he told Sky Sports back in June. “I think front wing, there is some modification there, and we’re bringing always new parts to the car. Some of them are just circuit-specific, sometimes it’s just an improvement in lap time.
“I’m happy with how we are approaching every race, there is something always new on our car, try to keep up the pace with the top teams. I think we’re still growing in that area of the team, we found ourselves in a very competitive place this year, that we didn’t expect, so I think we still need to speed up things.
“I think Ferrari is already two floors into this season, Mercedes obviously with a completely new car in Monaco and more upgrades here, Red Bull – Baku package and another one here.

“So we understand that we are not in that position yet, but we stay humble, we stay delivering the job on Sundays and try to score more points than them.” Aston Martin have exceeded all expectations this season and find themselves in third place – 51 points behind Mercedes and five ahead of Ferrari heading into the Dutch GP.
With a top-three finish on the cards, Aston Martin chiefs are doing everything they can to ensure Alonso and Lance Stroll can perform their best on the track and are set to roll out several big upgrades at Zandvoort.

Technical director Dan Fallows said: “We’ve been working tirelessly to develop our understanding of the AMR23. We believe we now have a good understanding of the car’s weaknesses and we’re taking steps to address them.
“We hope that the performance of the car at Zandvoort, with our latest updates, will confirm we are heading in the right direction and help Lance and Fernando fight for points this weekend.” Full details of the upgrades will be revealed when the FIA’s ‘show and tell’ document is released ahead of the race.
