Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025
Max Verstappen will never topple rival Lewis Hamilton and become the GOAT of Formula One, Express Sport readers have insisted. Verstappen’s incredible run of 10 Grand Prix victories in a row recently ended, but even that period of dominance is seemingly not enough to convince fans that he is better than Hamilton.
The Dutchman enjoyed an incredible battle with Mercedes ace Hamilton in 2021. He pipped the Briton to the world title in the final lap of the very last race on the calendar.
And the rivalry has endured ever since, with Verstappen and Red Bull dominating the sport. Hamilton has not won a race since the season in which he fought Verstappen for the world title, falling behind due to a loss of form and frustrating technical problems.
However, F1 fans overwhelmingly believe Hamilton is still the F1 GOAT – meaning the greatest of all-time. In a poll of 8,250 Express Sport readers, 49 per-cent backed the seven-time world champion over the likes of Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost.

Supporters do not believe Hamilton will give up that title any time soon, either. A huge 64 per-cent say Verstappen will never become the F1 GOAT.
Red Bull star Verstappen insisted on Thursday that anyone playing down his achievements over the last two years are not proper fans of the sport. “Honestly, I have zero interest in that,” the two-time world champion said.

“For me, it was just we got beaten in a very clear way. I don’t think about what is good for Formula One. I don’t think it’s necessarily bad what was happening to Formula One because we were just better than everyone else.
“And if people can’t appreciate that, then you’re not a real fan. But that’s how it goes. That’s why I was also super relaxed about it because we didn’t perform [at the Singapore Grand Prix] and other people did a better job than us.
“Then, of course, they deserved to win. They shouldn’t win because people say it’s boring that we are winning.”
