Former F1 race winner Johnny Herbert has claimed that Michael Schumacher’s ongoing medical treatment has had a noticeable impact on Ralf Schumacher. The pair have worked as pundits in the F1 paddock for Sky Sports and Sky Germany in the past.
Herbert has since departed the Sky Sports roster, but he told Grosvenor Sport about his former colleague, saying: “When Ralf Schumacher was with Sky Germany we often met.
“Ralf has had to do a lot of things for and with the family given what happened to Michael. He has matured. He is very different now to the person he was as a driver.
“He is a good human being now. He has changed a lot having had to cope with the ongoing situation with his brother.”

Schumacher’s family continue to aid him in his recovery at his home in Switzerland, but public updates about the 54-year-old are few and far between with very few glimpses into his current state.
Long-time friend and F1 journalist Roger Benoit recently commented on Schumacher’s state in an interview with Blick, stating: “There is only one answer to this question and that is what his son Mick gave in one of his rare interviews in 2022: ‘I would give anything to talk to dad’.
“This sentence says everything about how his father has been doing for over 3500 days. A case without hope.”

Herbert also suggested that Schumacher would have been a good pundit after his F1 retirement, just like his younger brother. He continued: “He would have been outspoken. He was always very aware of what you can and can’t do.
“His character was always in your face, telling you directly if you had done something to him on the track. Remember Spa with David Coulthard. He would have been very good.”
The seven-time world champion initially retired from F1 back in 2006 after losing out on back-to-back World Championships at the hands of emerging Spanish sensation Fernando Alonso, before returning to the grid to race into his forties beyond 2010.
