Michael Schumacher’s friend reveals why he won’t ask questions about his health condition – despite having regular contact with F1 icon’s son Mick

• F1 legend Michael Schumacher was involved in a horrific skiing accident in 2013 
• The seven-time world champion hasn’t appeared publicly in almost ten years
• His close friend Timo Glock said it is right his health condition remains private 

Former Formula One driver Timo Glock has insisted the health condition of Michael Schumacher must be kept private.

F1 legend Schumacher – who won seven world championships – was involved in a skiing accident in December 2013 that left him in a medically induced coma. He hasn’t appeared publicly since.

The German is cared for by a team of medical staff and his wife Corinna at their Lake Geneva home, but little has been made public about his condition.

And Glock – who is a fellow countryman and was close friends with Schumacher – claimed it is right that his family keep his health status to themselves, despite the public clamour for updates on one of the greatest drivers of all time.

‘I keep in contact with Mick Schumacher (Michael’s son) as he and I get along well,’ he told LuckyBlock.

‘I’ve also known other members of his family for a very long time, but I try not to impose on their privacy.

‘I respect their right to be private, and I don’t discuss Michael’s condition with them.’

Schumacher is one of the most successful F1 drivers of all time, having claimed the world title in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004.

He also added 71 fastest laps and 155 podiums to his name during his iconic racing career.

Mick Schumacher – who is Michael’s son – followed in his father’s footsteps by competing in F1 when he drove for Haas in 2021 and 2022, finishing 19th and 16th respectively.  

However, he was dropped for the 2023 season in favour of veteran Nico Hulkenberg and is the current reserve driver for Mercedes.

And Glock – who spent six seasons as an F1 driver – claimed Schumacher would have been proud of his son following in his footsteps. 

He added: ‘I think Michael would have supported his son, Mick, in his career and he would’ve shown him around those F1 tracks.

‘He was, and still is, a great supporter of his children, and he’s still a great ambassador of the sport.’

Schumacher’s family remain very protective of his privacy and it is understood that many of their close friends and relations are even unsure about the state of his health.

However, in the Netflix documentary ‘Schumacher’, which aired in 2021, his wife Corinna did provide a rare update.

She revealed he continues to undergo rehabilitation for the life-changing injuries he suffered and claimed he is now ‘different, but here’.

He also insisted Schumacher would have been proud of his son Mick following in his footsteps 

And Glock reflected on his memories from the past with Schumacher, including the parties they used to throw together, and expressed his admiration for the seven-time world champion.

‘I spent a lot of time off-track with Michael, and it didn’t matter what we did,’ he said. 

‘Michael kept himself to himself on the track, and he didn’t open up too much. It was, however, the opposite away from the track.

‘He was very open, super friendly, and a really nice guy. People thought he wasn’t!

‘He is the greatest driver ever as far as I’m concerned. He was my hero. He was so influential as I was growing up.’
