Wolff and Vasseur summoned to F1 stewards as duo face penalty for sweary rants

Fred Vasseur and Toto Wolff have both been called to the stewards in Abu Dhabi after the Mercedes and Ferrari team principals embarked on x-rated rants during the press conference in Las Vegas last weekend.

In a report published by the FIA on Thursday ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, they noted: “The purpose of the Hearing will be to determine if there is a breach of Article 12.2.1.f of the FIA International Sporting Code and if so, what if any action should follow.”

The two team principals find themselves in hot water following an extremely heated end to the opening day of on-track action in Las Vegas, during which a loose water valve stopped FP1 after a mere nine minutes.

The organisers came under plenty of criticism for the incident, which saw FP1 cancelled and FP2 pushed back into the early hours of the morning. Wolff, however, came out firing with a furious defence of F1.

“It’s completely ridiculous,” Wolff replied to one journalist during the press conference. “How can you even dare talk bad about an event that sets the new standards to everything?

“And then you’re speaking about a f***ing drain cover that’s come undone, that’s nothing. It’s FP1, give credit to the people that have set up this grand prix. That have made this sport much bigger than it ever was.

“Have you ever spoken about someone or written a good word? You should about all these people that have been out here. Liberty [F1 owners] have done an awesome job and just because in FP1 a drain cover has come undone we shouldn’t be moaning.”
