South Sydney legend Sam Burgess’ time at the club is over after a lengthy meeting with Rabbitohs powerbrokers on Wednesday morning.

Burgess left the club’s Maroubra offices at 9am before being picked up by his partner and said “I wish the boys all the well (sic).”

The 2014 premiership winner arrived at Souths headquarters at 6.30am on Wednesday following revelations from this masthead that he and fellow assistant coach John Morris were set to be moved on by the club after privately raising concerns of double standards around the treatment of star duo Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker.

Burgess said he plans to release a statement later on Wednesday.

The Yorkshireman is set to return to England after the NRL season to become head coach of Super League club Warrington.

The Rabbitohs have the bye this weekend with their finals hopes hinging on a last-round showdown with bitter rivals the Roosters.

Chairman Nick Pappas left the club’s offices about 9.30am.

“There will be a release from the club that summarises everything,” Pappas said.

When asked if Burgess was leaving the club, Pappas said: “No comment. The release says it all. We wish Sam all the best.”

When pressed on whether there was any favouritism showed towards certain people in the club, Pappas declared: “Absolutely not”.
