Aaron Ramsdale has been dropped for Arsenal's away match at Everton.
Mikel Arteta has selected summer signing David Raya in between the sticks instead. It comes after Ramsdale played the full 90 minutes for England against Scotland in midweek as the Three Lions won 3-1.
He'd kept just one clean sheet for the Gunners before the international break, conceding four goals in their opening four games of the season. Raya was brought in on loan from Brentford during the transfer window to increase competition, with Matt Turner leaving to join Nottingham Forest.
The other change Arteta made for the trip to Goodison Park was bringing Fabio Vieira into the starting XI for Kai Havertz, who has struggled since his arrival from Chelsea.
Arteta may well have one eye on their upcoming Champions League clash with PSV. His side play host to the Dutch outfit on Wednesday (September 20) as the European competitions get underway next week.
Arsenal fans were largely in agreement with their boss' decision to bench Ramsdale. One argued: "Much needed change. We’ve barely played out from the back this season and Aaron looks like he’s lost his confidence."
A second commented: "I'm all in agreement with it. Competition breeds competence." And a third wrote: "Arteta’s starting Raya today, so he can give Ramsdale his UCL debut on Wednesday. Actually makes sense when you think about it."
"Raya starting means Ramsdale will be in goal midweek vs PSV, no need to overreact," posted a fourth, while a fifth added: "Minutes have to be shared between them because they’re both top goalkeepers."
