Aaron Ramsdale will not like David Raya’s agent’s stance on transfer saga

Aaron Ramsdale might not be best pleased by a suggestion from David Raya's agent that the England stopper was never Arsenal's first-choice.

Agent Jaume Munell has claimed that his client, a target of the Gunners as well as Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Manchester United, wasn't able to join the club sooner which led to Ramsdale's £30million arrival.

Ramsdale, 25, had two full seasons in goal as Mikel Arteta's men narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification before being involved in a title race with Manchester City last season, getting dropped after Raya joined from Brentford.

Munell told AFTV: "Arsenal showed interest for the first time three years ago in 2021. They tried to buy him but Brentford didn’t want to sell him at any price.

"After they bought Ramsdale that was an easier option but David has always been the priority.

"This summer, he had just one year left on his contract with Brentford and Arsenal was the club that showed the most concrete interest and have always been our priority."

Munell also claimed that Tottenham put a bid in for his client before his Arsenal switch but it was lower than their £34.9million asking price.

He added that Bayern Munich were keen on a loan move, which wasn't the right option for Raya because it didn't include an option to buy.

Raya ended up at Arsenal on an initial loan move which cost £3m, with a purchase option of £27m on top of the cash already paid. With Munell hinting ar 'issues' in completing a permanent deal in the past.

Raya has since displaced Ramsdale and made 11 appearances in all competitions including seven in the Premier League.

He has conceded a total of eight goals and kept six clean sheets, winning seven matches, drawing two and losing two.

To make matters worse for Ramsdale, Gareth Southgate has also suggested that he could lose his England spot if he doesn't return to playing regular football.
