Trent Alexander-Arnold silenced the Etihad with a brilliant equaliser before boiling the blood of the Manchester City fans by putting his finger to his lips in celebration.
The Liverpool star controlled Mohamed Salah’s pass before taking a couple of touches into the area and firing low and hard across Ederson into the far corner to level the scores at 1-1 after Erling Haaland put the hosts ahead in the first half.
Pandemonium erupted in the away end behind the goal as the ball nestled into the bottom corner, seeing the England international pat the Liverpool badge on his chest before raising his arms to the crowd.
As he reached the touchline, Alexander-Arnold then glared at the City fans and put his finger to his lips, seeing fans reacting on social media.
One Liverpool fan commented on Twitter: “Go on Trent ya big s***house”, a second said: “That’s Trent for you!” However, some fans weren’t happy with the celebration given City’s dominant display, tweeting: “Trent with the silence celebration in a game where his team is being humiliated.”
Alexander-Arnold’s goal proved to be the final one of the game to rescue Jurgen Klopp’s side a point from the jaws of defeat to remain just a point behind City at the top of the table.
The 25-year-old’s late equaliser meant that City’s 23 match winning streak at the Etihad came to an end, a record that had stretched the entirety of 2023.
Speaking after the game, Alexander-Arnold reacted to his celebration, he hilariously said: “It’s always good to celebrate in front of away fans. Seeing all of the faces is really funny.”
Earlier in the game, Haaland had put City ahead with his 50th Premier League goal, unsurprisingly becoming the fastest player ever to reach that milestone.
