Aston Villa's 'wet look' kit has caused problems all season and Alisha Lehmann has become the latest player to fall victim to it.

Reports emerged last month that the Midlands club were looking to end their multi-year deal with kit manufacturers Castore early following complaints about how wet the shirts got during matches. Players insisted their performances were being hindered because the tops were so uncomfortable and heavy.

Aston Villa's women's team were reportedly "dreading" playing in the kit on their return to WSL action this weekend. And true to form, the sticky shirts whipped up a storm when Lehmann suffered something of a wardrobe malfunction just before kick-off.

Fans could clearly see the blonde forward's nipples poking through her skin-clinging top – a problem the club's male players have also experienced this term.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, Aston Villa Women's boss Carla Ward said: "It's up to the football club's legal team and Castore to discuss that and deal with that. It's something I've tried to completely ignore as difficult as that is. The football club are in full control of that. They've been excellent with us, myself and the players around it."

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat last month, football commentator Jacqui Oatley said of Villa's women's team: "They've got four TV games coming up. Normally they'd absolutely relish those games and look forward to them. But they're actually dreading it because they're really conscious about how they're going to look in this wet, clingy kit – for obvious reasons.

"You can imagine, as a female athlete, you have plenty enough to think about just being the best you can be on the football field without thinking about getting sweaty and your kit clinging to you. Both from a performance aspect as it is with the men but also from an aesthetic aspect.

TNT is the only place you can watch all the action from the Champions League this year. You can see every game from the group stage right through to the final as Manchester City look to defend their crown as the newest kings of the World's biggest and best football tournament.

"And, as we know, women are different specimens when it comes to our bodies and it can really affect us and how we perform if we're constantly thinking about how we look, or a top might be clinging to our breasts and also our body shapes. These are genuine issues for women which you would have thought somebody would have thought through before they released this kit. But it seems perhaps that wasn't the case, because they didn't think about it for the men so I'm quite sure they won't have thought about it for the women."

Lehmann has over 15million followers on Instagram, many of whom have dubbed her the world's sexiest footballer. She's been at Villa since joining from West Ham in 2021, following a brief loan spell at Everton.
