Andros Townsend reveals the ‘minor tactical tweaks’ that saw Man City snatch a late winner at Sheffield United… hailing boss Pep Guardiola as ‘the BEST at what he does’ despite him being absent
- Sky pundit Andros Townsend said Pep Guardiola is the ‘best at what he does’
- The Catalan missed Man City’s 2-1 at Sheffield United following back surgery
- Rodri’s goal at Bramall Lane moved City back to the top of the Premier League
Andros Townsend has claimed Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world following Manchester City’s late win at Sheffield United on Sunday.
The City boss missed the game as he continues to recover from minor back surgery, but he was still in communication with his backroom team at Bramall Lane.
A late Rodri strike earned the Premier League title holders the win after Jayden Bogle had cancelled out an Erling Haaland header.
City’s victory ensured they maintained their 100 per cent start to the league season despite Haaland hitting the post with a first-half penalty
Even though Guardiola was not present, Townsend still felt the victory showed his best qualities as a manager.

He told Sky Sports: ‘I think days like today show why Pep is one of the best if not the best, because in the first half Sheffield United got their tactics perfect with the back three, man-for-man [marking].
‘They (Sheffield United) sort of had three in midfield who were blocking any passes centrally and then at half time Pep moves Kovacic alongside Silva and Alvarez, and creates a three and a number ten that overloads Sheffield United; dragging players out to where they don’t want to be.
‘So I think these minor tactical tweaks are what won Man City the game, and why Pep is the best at what he does.’
Guardiola is also set to miss City’s league fixture against Fulham next weekend before returning to the dugout after the upcoming international break.
Having won all three of their Premier League matches so far this season, the Treble winners currently sit top of the table.
