Arsenal fans have taken to social media to vent their frustration after Leandro Trossard’s goal was ruled out by VAR for offside.
Mikel Arteta’s side thought they had taken the lead in Saturday’s tea-time kick-off against Brentford just before half time, when the Belgian followed up Gabriel Jesus’ saved effort from Mark Flakken.
The Gunners celebrated what they thought was the opener, but after a VAR check the goal was ruled out down to Trossard being adjudged to being in a marginally offside position.
The decision caused much debate from the pundits watching the game and across social media, where Arsenal supporters were quick to post their disapproval of the disallowed goal.
‘Trossard robbed, @FA_PGMOL at it again. The agenda continues.’ One fan wrote in anger, believing their team was denied a goal that would have seen them take the lead against the Bees.

Whereas another blames the actual offside rule itself rather than the decision made by the VAR officials, stating: ‘Offside rule is nonsensical. There’s no advantage gained in that situation man.’
Although, there were some others who still doubted the decision, especially given the camera angle they had, and called for semi-automatic offsides to be introduced to stop the debates on offside calls.
‘Are you telling me that was the ONLY camera angle they had?’ The bemoaned on X.
‘No way you can actually tell from that, getting semi-automatic offside decisions from the world cup immediately.’
Some fans even went into delirium over the decision, after not understanding how this was given, but Antony Gordon’s controversial goal against the Gunners at Newcastle earlier this month was allowed.

However, watching on in the TNT Sports studio, pundit Peter Crouch disagreed with the Arsenal fans online and agreed VAR did get it right, before going state it was Arsenal’s best play of the first period.
‘I think he was just off.’ Crouch said.
‘Great throw in down the left from Zinchenko, comes back to Saka. I think it was Arsenal’s best bit of play. It was quick, it was incisive. It was a great ball from Saka.
‘I think Jesus has got to head it down there. If you look, he’s got good contact on it. If he heads that down, it goes in, it’s too close to the keeper’s arms. I think it was the right call, he’s just offside.’
Crouch’s studio partner Rio Ferdinand was also far from impressed with Arsenal’s first half display.
‘I think they’ve been a bit laboured.’ said Ferdinand.
‘That sharpness hasn’t been there you usually associate with Arsenal around the box. Brentford have sat back for long periods and been penned back. But they’ve looked comfortable. The first time they change the rhythm of the game and quicken it up, they create an opportunity like that. They weren’t able to finish it off.’
