Arsenal have confirmed left back Kieran Tierney has completed a season-long loan move to Spanish side Real Sociedad.

The 26-year-old had not featured the Gunners’ opening three Premier League matches of the season as he closed on a move.

Tierney has played 124 games for the club since signing in 2019 but has suffered from injuries during his time at the club.

‘The 26 year-old enjoyed success in his first season with us, finishing the campaign scoring his first Arsenal goal in our 3-2 home win against Watford on the final day of the Premier League campaign,’ an Arsenal statement read.

‘This was followed days later with Kieran starting in our 2-1 FA Cup Final win over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium, playing an integral role in the club lifting the FA Cup for a record fourteenth time.

Arsenal have confirmed Kieran Tierney has joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan deal

‘During his four seasons with us, Kieran also featured in our FA Community Shield winning teams in both 2020 over Liverpool and the recent Wembley victory over Manchester City.

‘Everyone at Arsenal wishes Kieran all the best this coming season with Real Sociedad’.

Tierney revealed he has spoken to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard before making the loan switch.

Odegaard had played for Real Sociedad on loan from Real Madrid during the 2019-20 season.

‘My first impressions have been so good, everyone I meet have been so friendly, the city is so nice and the stadium is beautiful, Tierney said.

‘It is a big change [coming to La Liga] but something I am looking forward to so much.

‘It is an exciting challenge and I am delighted to be here.

‘Martin [Odegaard] said the fans and people are so good and really welcoming and you will love your time here.

‘The club is in a good place, especially over the last few seasons and this season the Champions League, so it is an amazing club.’

Arsenal had been hoping to sell Tierney permanently, but the LaLiga outfit were only interested in a loan move.
