Bradford City targeting ex-Leeds United manager after sacking Mark Hughes

Bradford City have targeted Steve Thompson and Neil Redfearn in their search for a new manager.

The League Two club are looking for a new boss after sacking Mark Hughes this week following a poor run of results. Thompson and Redfearn are currently in caretaker charge of Oldham – and have engineered an unbeaten run of five games.

The duo could be given the job full-time if the Latics beat Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday. But the Bantams are keen to speak to Thompson and Redfearn about the vacant role at Valley Parade.

Redfearn is no stranger to West Yorkshire, and he was once in the hot seat at local rivals Leeds United. Redfearn had three separate spells as caretaker manager at the Peacocks, before he was handed the top job on a permanent basis in 2014.

While at Leeds, Thompson was his assistant – and the pair managed to guide Leeds to safety in the 14/15 season, finishing mid-table. However, they were dismissed by Massimo Cellino at the end of the season with Uwe Rosler named as the new boss.

Hughes was dismissed following three wins in 11 games this season, with the Bantams 18th in the table. Supporters turned on the former Wales boss following last weekend's home defeat to Walsall.

Kevin McDonald has been named interim player-manager, but chief executive Ryan Sparks is keen to appoint someone with more experience.
