Brighton lauded for ‘scamming’ Chelsea as Blues look to bin £62m flop Cucurella

Brighton have been praised once again in the transfer market, this time for ‘scamming’ Chelsea out of £62million for a flop the Blues are now desperate to offload.

Chelsea signed Spain international full-back Marc Cucurella last summer after an impressive 12 months previously on the south coast. But after a miserable debut campaign at Stamford Bridge last season, Chelsea are ready to offload the flop to Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag's Red Devils are desperate for a left-back after Luke Shaw was ruled out for an extended period and Tyrell Malacia remains sidelined.

It’s been reported by various outlets that United are in talks with the Blues over a loan deal for Cucurella, and it’s understood the only sticking point remains on both parties reaching an agreement on the fees involved after United submitted a proposal.

All the while, Brighton fans have been left laughing and others have once again lauded their incredible transfer business in the recent windows.

One page posted on Twitter a clip of a man laughing whilst counting money, with the caption: “Brighton hearing that Chelsea might loan Cucurella to Man United, a year after paying £65m for him.”

A second tweeted: “Hats off to Brighton, proper scam with Cucurella and Potter,” with a third commenting: “Brighton really did scam them with Cucurella huh?”

Cucurella joined the Seagulls for £15m and played 38 times in all competitions, scoring his solitary goal for the club in the 4-0 rout at home against United.

But following his 33 games for the Blues last season and Chelsea not playing in any European competition, the one-capped Spaniard is now third in the pecking order behind Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen, previously playing fourth to Lewis Hall before he joined Newcastle United.

Cucurella is amongst a number of names circulated with a move to Old Trafford alongside Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilon and Barcelona’s unregistered Marcos Alonso. But it now seems the former £62m man is United’s priority in the stricken position.
