Chelsea co-owner runs away from furious fans after another damaging Blues defeat

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali made a swift exit from Stamford Bridge on Sunday – ignoring fans in the process.

Eghbali is the co-founder of Clearlake Capital who are a private equity firm that own 60% of the club having joined forces with Todd Boehly. Things haven't gone to plan since the takeover, with over £1billion spent and miserable results across the board.

A clip posted to social media after Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game in a third defeat for Mauricio Pochettino, Eghbali wasn't hanging around in getting to his car. Moving with intent, Eghbali did his best to slalom through disgruntled fans and ignore a young supporter who followed him before he reached the private vehicles.

One fan said online: "He is furious." A second added: "Man is running to his car." A third agreed: "Running like a man who’s ready to sack someone."

Born in Iran before moving to the United States as a child, Eghbali is worth an estimated £3.1billion according to Forbes, with Clearlake Capital claiming to have more than £57bn in assets. The discontent that followed the defeat wasn't just impacting Eghbali, with Chelsea sitting 14th in the table with one win from six.

After Nicolas Jackson picked up a suspension, following his fifth yellow card of the season for dissent, Pochettino said: "We need to grow up as a team, not only in an individual way. A player like Nicholas is so young and is feeling his way into the Premier League and learning.

"He needs time, and in this type of game we are competing and want to win. But the players, when they are young, need to learn with experience and when they make a mistake.

"That is why we feel disappointed because we are paying too many situations like this. Things like this is another small detail and, in the end, we are losing the game. We are in a situation we need to change as soon as possible."

Next up for the Chelsea is the EFL Cup third round contest against Brighton on Wednesday. They then make the short trip to take on west London neighbours Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday, October 2.
