Chelsea ‘open door’ for PSG to sign £30m Pochettino transfer target Moscardo

Mauricio Pochettino “angry and disappointed” after Chelsea lose 4-1 at Newcastle.

Chelsea may have opened the door for Paris Saint-Germain to beat them to a January deal for Corinthians wonderkid Gabriel Moscardo. The 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a host of top European clubs, with Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit said to hold a strong interest in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were thought to be frontrunners for his signature as the Brazil youth international looks set to be the latest South American star to take Europe by storm. However, PSG may have stolen a march on the Blues despite Todd Boehly and co contacting Corinthians over a potential January transfer.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that PSG are set to open talks for Moscardo and they are seriously interested in him heading for Paris. The club’s recruitment chief Luis Campos has been closely monitoring his progress for months as they look to beat several clubs to his signature.

Chelsea currently are not looking to bid for Moscardo, even though they were said to have laid out a formal plan to land the starlet. He could cost as much as £30million in January according to Corinthians’ former chief Duilo Monteiro Alves.

Moscardo himself admitted that a proposal did arrive from Chelsea previously. “There was a proposal from Chelsea months ago, but I talk a lot with my agent and my parents and they try to give me as little information as possible,” he said earlier this month. “They say there is not long until the end of the season, they tell me to dedicate myself and do well, and that at the end of the season, there will be good things.”

Chelsea’s interest in the holding midfielder will have come as a surprise to many, despite the club’s approach of signing the best young talent from across the globe. They have already spent a huge amount of money to sign players who occupy the same position as Moscardo, having broken the British transfer record twice on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Teenager Lesley Ugochukwu was also brought in during the summer from Rennes for £23m and has made nine Premier League appearances so far this season, including a start in the recent 4-1 defeat at Newcastle.

The Blues also fended off Liverpool to land Southampton’s midfield starlet Romeo Lavia for £58m to ensure that they are already stacked in Moscardo’s position.

But Chelsea’s reluctance to press on with an attempt to sign Moscardo could give PSG the upper hand and may see Pochettino’s side miss out on a young player tipped for an extremely bright future, potentially hurting them in the years to come.
