England defender Alex Greenwood was stretchered off following a sickening clash of heads against Belgium on Tuesday. The Manchester City star received treatment on the pitch for 13 minutes during the Women’s Nations League match.
Greenwood and Belgium forward Jassina Blom collided during the first half of the match at the King Power at Den Dreef Stadium. There was immediate concern for both players but Blom was eventually able to carry on after having her head bandaged.
Greenwood clearly came off worse and the host broadcasters chose against showing a replay of the incident for several minutes. The 30-year-old laid on her side as the England medical staff appeared to give her oxygen and put her in a neck brace.
The game paused for 13 minutes while Greenwood was attended to. Some of her Lionesses team-mates were visibly worried for her welfare, while the Belgium players and other England stars tried to keep warm amongst themselves.
