Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment
The summer transfer deadline is less than three days away, but there is still plenty of work to do at Old Trafford. Manchester United could make as many as three new signings before the window slams shut on Friday, with Erik ten Hag eyeing a goalkeeper, left-back and midfielder.
There is expected to be some official movement today, with Dean Henderson on the verge of a £20million move to Crystal Palace.
His exit will trigger the arrival of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who has been in Manchester since last week ahead of his £4m arrival.
A left-back is also expected to come through the door in the coming days, with talks ongoing for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella as cover for the injured Luke Shaw.
Sergio Reguilon, Marcos Alonso and Nicolas Tagliafico also feature on a shortlist of six options to replace Shaw, who could be missing until November with a muscle problem.
Ten Hag still wants a second midfielder, too, but that prospect is becoming more unrealistic by the hour.
Sofyan Amrabat has been heavily linked with a switch in recent weeks, but United need to offload more players before making a concrete approach.

Man Utd agree Cucurella terms
Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Marc Cucurella ahead of a potential season-long loan, according to reports.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the Chelsea defender has given United the green light over a move in the coming days.
And the Red Devils have paused considerations for any other left-back as they close in on a deal for Cucurella.
United are working to find a compromise with Chelsea after initially being quoted a £7m loan fee.
Ten Hag wants Amrabat
Erik ten Hag would favour a move for Sofyan Amrabat if funds become available for a late midfield signing, according to reports.
The Telegraph claim that United had previously valued Scott McTominay at £40m to £45m, but could accept a lower fee at this stage of the summer.
And Ten Hag would want to spend any fee toward a move for Fiorentina’s Amrabat, who has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch.
Bayern Munich have been credited with an interest in McTominay, while Donny van de Beek remains in exit talks.
