Des Lynam has become a "real life Dr Dolittle" – giving animals a voice in his transition from presenter to author.
Before being succeeded by Gary Lineker, the 80-year-old became a football TV legend hosting Match of the Day as well as Sportsnight and Grandstand, to name just a few of his many gigs. He's not been seen on our TV screens for well over a decade.
But he's still keeping busy in retirement – writing several animal-themed books where the characters can speak English. Parts one and two of Now Who's Talking? hit the shelves in July.

Speaking about how it all came about, Lynam told Sussex World: “It never occurred to me about writing about animals. I was looking out of the window one day.
"The two magpies who usually stood together were at opposite ends of the garden. I wondered if they’d had a row. Obviously, we don’t know how they communicate, so I made it up from there.

“I made them speak English obviously, and created some dialogue, that was the first one and it grew from there, doing other animals. I thought it was quite funny and hoped somebody else would."
The former MOTD frontman has also written a farmyard version, Now Moo’s Talking?, a wildlife park edition, Now Zoo’s Talking, and a baby animal book, Now Coochie Coo’s Talking.
After someone suggested he get them published, Lynam sent them to the Beeb, who pointed him in the right direction.
"Jonathan Martin, who was my Head of Sport at the BBC, asked me where I got that imagination from," he added. "And Dick Knight (ex-Brighton and Hove Albion chairman) joked ‘If you’re not careful you’ll be rich again!’
“Since I stopped doing television, people often ask me, what do you do all day now? ‘I say stare out of the window into space’, and this is what that’s produced."
