Four Man Utd players in contract talks – and fans gobsmacked Martial could stay

Manchester United supporters have been left flabbergasted following reports Anthony Martial's contract may be extended.

Martial, 28, has been underwhelming since he joined the club from Monaco all the way back in 2015. United fans thought the Frenchman's time at the club was over when he was sent on loan to Sevilla in the 2022 January transfer window.

However, he has been a part of Erik ten Hag's squad ever since he was named as the club's permanent manager. But with Martial's contract expiring next summer, many United fans were left shocked that he could remain at the club beyond that.

Reports from The Athletic suggested Martial is one of four players whose deals expire in 2024 currently being considered for new deals. Ten Hag confirmed Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal Mejbri could all have a clause in their contract triggered so they can stay another year.

And rumours of certain extensions are all the more concerning in the wake of Saturday's 3-0 decimation at home to Bournemouth. Martial started at Old Trafford but struggled to make an impact in his 56-minute display, while Wan-Bissaka was among the substitutes, injured Lindelof was absent and Mejbri missed out on the squad.

After this news became known, many in the United fanbase vented their frustrations on social media. "What the f*** not Martial. I can’t do it anymore," said one angry supporter.

One fan took specific aim at the United boss by writing: "I swear down if Ten Hag keeps Martial, that's Ten Hag out. I don’t want him sacked but I’m scared for our future under him if he’s keeping him at the club. What a joke."

A third also said: "That Martial fella is my worse enemy," before a fourth tweeted: "An extension for Martial would be an absolute joke, I would rather play Scott McTominay as a striker than Martial."

When asked about the prospect of all four staying at the club, Ten Hag said: "Absolutely, those (contracts) are in our mindset, we are discussing things and when we have news we will bring it. Also, we have to make a final decision (on Reguilon) but also there is Spurs who are involved in that (conversation)as well."

Martial was hauled off by Ten Hag against Bournemouth after only 56 minutes at Old Trafford.
