Four players Man Utd could sign if Ten Hag listens to Keane and ditches 10 flops

Manchester United could raise some serious funds if they ditch the 10 players Roy Keane thinks his former club should cut ties with.

During a recent appearance on the Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, the Irish icon played a game of Man Utd ‘Keep, last straw and ditch’ with Gary Neville. Among those Keane placed in the ‘ditch’ category were Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Diogo Dalot, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, Antony, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho.

According to their combined transfer values on transfermarkt.com, that would leave Erik ten Hag with £200million to play with. Recouping that type of money would clear the path for some of the biggest names in the game and make the Dutchman’s job a whole lot easier. Here, Express Sport looks at four players who could be brought in with their hypothetical wad of cash.

Victor Osimhen

It seems every club in Europe wants to sign Victor Osimhen right now, including Man Utd. The Napoli striker is the out-and-out goalscorer United are crying out for but his staggering £150m asking price would prove to be a stumbling block with the Red Devils current financial status. However, with £200m in the bank they would be able to compete with even the richest of potential suitors.

Joao Palihna

Manchester United lack stability in the centre of the park and are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder in the upcoming transfer windows. Deep-lying players don’t come much better than Fulham’s Joao Palihna, who ranked 1st last season in the Premier League for tackles and duels won.

Fulham are aware of the asset they have on their hands and have slapped a £90m price tag on the Portuguese international. Man Utd could shell out that fee and still have £110m left over if they follow Keane’s advice.

Ivan Toney

If Man Utd don’t want to use up all their funds in one fell swoop by signing Osimhen, Brentford’s Ivan Toney serves as a slightly cheaper option. Toney provides the added incentive of being a proven Premier League goal-scorer and would cost somewhere in the region of £80m.

Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo is among the best defenders in the world right now. The Uruguayan centre-back seems destined to leave Barcelona in the not-so-distant future. Barca value him at around £80m which considering his lofty potential would be a bargain in this current inflated market. United are in desperate need of a world-class centre-back to pair with Lisandro Martinez and Araujo ticks all the boxes.
