Gary Neville blames Glazers for Man Utd loss to Brighton in fresh rant

Jadon Sancho to train away from Man Utd squad until ‘discipline issue’ resolved

Gary Neville has blamed the Glazer family for Manchester United’s disastrous 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton on Saturday. The Red Devils were outclassed at Old Trafford by Roberto De Zerbi’s side in a performance that highlighted that Erik ten Hag has significant work to do on the training pitch if his side are to finish in the top four again this season.

United started brightly but ultimately fell behind after former player Danny Welbeck guided his strike past Andre Onana in the 20th minute. Pascal Gross then doubled the Seagulls’ lead after the half-time break before Joao Pedro came off of the bench to put the game to bed with a cool finish from the edge of the box.

Hannibal Mejbri offered United a glimmer of hope in the 73rd minute but ultimately his side were unable to use the momentum to craft any further openings. Ten Hag and the Red Devils squad as a whole have been criticised for the defeat, though Neville feels that the blame should lie with the Glazers for the display.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I’ve just got back from Old Trafford and you always have to be optimistic pre-match but the most concerning thing is what we ended up watching wasn’t a surprise. This wasn’t a lack of effort or a group of players not interested. This was a team well-beaten by opponents that were well-drilled and knew what they were doing. Simple as that…

“Oh and yes the Glazers are responsible. It’s how it works. You own a business and everything good and bad sits with you! They inherited the best in all areas. They’ve overseen 10 years of mediocrity off the pitch and on the pitch.

“They set the culture of greed, ill-discipline, indecision and uncertainty that runs right through the club. It would be best if they sold the club with some speed and efficiency and allowed at least the off-the-pitch items to be corrected properly to reset the tone and culture.

“Football is volatile so results on the pitch can be erratic and cyclical but if the off-the-pitch stuff including the owners’ direction and leadership are spot on it gives you a better chance to succeed on it.”

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are both eagerly waiting to learn whether they have been selected as the successful bidder to complete the purchase of United.

However fears are growing that the Glazers may not entertain the aforementioned offers and pluck for minority investment instead. That would prompt widespread uproar given it would mean the Glazers stay at the club.
