Jose Enrique has played with his fair share of top players – but none compare to ex-Liverpool hero Luis Suarez.

The Spaniard spent three years as the Uruguayan's team-mate before leaving for Barcelona in a £65million deal in 2014. His departure from Anfield came just months after Liverpool failed to capture the Premier League title, despite topping the table with just three games left of the season.

Suarez, 36, produced one of the greatest individual seasons in the history of the league with 31 goals and 17 assists in just 33 games, despite being banned for the opening five games of the 2013/14 campaign.

While Enrique, 37, played just eight games that season due to persistent knee injuries, he had a front-row seat to Suarez's brillianc. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport, via Grosvenor Sport, the Spaniard spoke of just how special his former team-mate was.

"I think what Luis could do, I've never seen anyone do what he did in a Liverpool shirt," Enrique said. "I know Gerrard was world-class but I didn't play with him in his prime. In the 13/14 season, I have never seen a player [like that], not just the numbers even though they were crazy, it was just how superior he was to every single person on the pitch.

He added that he's yet to see a player perform at the heights Suarez reached a decade ago since. "He was different, you give him the ball and you know something is going to happen and it doesn't matter if he goes against three defenders by himself. I didn't see anyone in the Premier League doing that since Suarez."

Despite his departure in 2014, Liverpool have gone on to reclaim their position as one of the major football powerhouses in Europe, led by Mohamed Salah. Enrique admitted that Salah is a "bigger Liverpool legend" than Suarez due to the silverware he's accrued at Anfield.

"The reality is he's breaking records, he stayed for longer, and he's won a lot more trophies than Luis in the Liverpool shirt. Enrique has only two players who he'd put ahead of the Gremio striker as he added: "Both of them are legends of the club but Luis is the best player I've ever played with, the only players I put ahead of him are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."
