Aaron Ramsdale’s appearance in the Carabao Cup this week proves he is now second fiddle to David Raya at Arsenal, according to Ian Ladyman on Mail Sport’s ‘It’s All Coming Up’ show.
The England goalkeeper started Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over Brentford after Spanish stopper Raya played in the last three games against Everton, PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham.
Mikel Arteta has said he will rotate his two keepers throughout the season after Raya was signed on loan from Brentford to provide competition for Ramsdale.
But Mail Sport’s football editor Ladyman believes there is a pecking order and that has now become apparent.
‘Ramsdale was picked last night for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup game against Brentford and that proves to me what I’ve said all along – he’s the No 2,’ he said.

‘He’s the cup goalkeeper for Arsenal. On Saturday at Bournemouth [in the Premier League], he will be back on the bench.’
Ramsdale made a string of crucial saves in keeping a clean sheet as Arsenal progressed to a fourth round tie against West Ham thanks to Reiss Nelson’s early goal.
Afterwards, Arteta said of Ramsdale: ‘He’s been exceptional around the place and especially with the situation.
‘We love him, for sure. We know his character and what he brings to the team and we are happy to have him. Every player is very important. Today he had the opportunity to play and he had a really good game.’
Mail Sport pundit Chris Sutton, appearing with Ladyman on the show, said: ‘The whole point about Mikel Arteta bringing in Raya was that they would have great competition and they’ve got that.
‘Credit to Ramsdale for his performance at Brentford, he kept Arsenal in the game at times and they have gone through.
‘I don’t get your point with this – you’ve said Raya is going to be No 1 but let’s see how this pans out.’
