Premier League fans reminisced on Ian Wright's Match of the Day debut after the Arsenal legend announced he will be leaving the show.
Wright, 60, announced he will be stepping away from the iconic highlights programme. He first appeared on the show in 1997, when he was a fresh faced television pundit still playing for the Gunners.
He immediately charmed the viewers of the iconic football highlights show with his quick wit and humour. After fans were left gutted by the news that he would be leaving the show, a video of his debut alongside the great Des Lynam did the rounds on social media.

Dressed in a black blazer complete with a purple shirt and matching tie, Wright could not stop smiling when he was introduced by Lynam. He says: "This is my Graceland Des. I love it here. Match of the Day man." He then pulled the cheesiest grin you would ever see in your life to the camera.
After the video did the rounds, fans came out in their droves to wish the former forward the very best of luck in whatever he chooses to do next. "Thank you Wrighty," one fan said. "Absolute legend! Thank you Wrighty. All the best in your next venture," a second added.

Wright announced his departure from the show on X, writing: "After my debut show whilst still a player in 1997 and many more memorable years, I’ll be stepping back from BBC MOTD at the end of this season. I feel very privileged to have had such an incredible run on the most iconic football show in the world."
Match of the Day host and Wright's good friend Lineker was one of the first to react, when he said: "It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work alongside you, Ian. One of my favourite people on the planet. Farewell my friend."
