Jamie Carragher has claimed Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Newcastle is among their best victories under Jurgen Klopp after the Reds fought back from a goal and a man down to win at St James’ Park.
Substitute Darwin Nunez inspired Liverpool’s turnaround as the Uruguayan brought the visitors level in the 81st minute as he latched onto a through ball and fired into the bottom corner.
Nunez then scored an unlikely winner in stoppage time with a lethal finish after being played through by Mohamed Salah.
His brace marked a stunning turnaround after Anthony Gordon had put Newcastle 1-0 up in the first half, with Virgil van Dijk seeing red minutes later for a foul on Aleksander Isak.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher claimed the nature of the turnaround made the victory one of the best of Klopp’s near eight years in charge.

‘St James’ Park under Eddie Howe is one of the most difficult places in the country to come to and that is 11 v 11,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports.
‘That’ll be one of the best victories in Jurgen Klopp’s time. To come here in the situation that they find themselves in. 1-0 down.
‘Newcastle still going forward trying to find that second goal and yeah you need that little bit of luck in a situation like that but Liverpool were threatening in the second half you felt like something could happen and that is why you see the scenes here at the end of the game.
‘We’ve talked about a lot of these players who have won the lot but you see the reaction to that victory because they realise how important, not just the result, but how they’ve come to getting it.
‘Because coming here was always going to be tough and Newcastle have been favourites 11 v 11 but the situation they find themselves in – unbelievable result for Liverpool.’
Carragher’s comment was high praise given several significant wins during Klopp’s tenure, with the German manager having led the club to Champions League and Premier League glory.
Liverpool’s remarkable win over Newcastle saw Klopp’s side continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, having recorded two wins and one draw.
