Where could Greenwood relaunch his football career?
Jose Mourinho could finally get to manage Mason Greenwood at Roma after being denied the chance to work with him during his time at Manchester United. Greenwood is set to leave the Red Devils this summer after it was confirmed on Monday that he will not be reintegrated into Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad.
United have already been contacted by several clubs expressing a desire to sign Greenwood, according to the Daily Mail, with Roma said to be among the interested parties. It is claimed that Mourinho is a keen ‘admirer’ of the 21-year-old and would jump at the chance to work alongside him at Roma if the opportunity arises.
Greenwood was merely a teenage prospect in United’s academy when Mourinho was at Old Trafford, although he certainly left a lasting impression on the Portuguese boss. He tried to call Greenwood up to the senior squad when he was just 15 years of age but red tape prevented him from doing so, meaning that he never got the chance to manage the forward.
Nicky Butt, who was United’s head of first-team development under Mourinho, previously explained to The Athletic that it was not possible for Greenwood to train with the senior squad in spite of his manager’s wishes.

“He [Mourinho] would ask me which players I wanted to move up,” said Butt. “He asked ‘who is this kid Greenwood?’ when Mason was 15, ‘bring him to train with us’, and I said ‘we can’t, because he’s at school and there are rules and regulations’.”
It remains to be seen if Mourinho will finally get to work alongside Greenwood at Roma, with the finer details of his United departure still being ironed out. The options currently on the table include a permanent sale, a loan move or a mutual termination of his £75,000-per-week contract, which is set to run until the summer of 2025.

Gary Neville wades into ‘horrible’ Greenwood treatment after Man Utd statement[REACTION]
United said in a statement on Monday that although they believe Greenwood did not commit the offences he was accused of last year, he would not be returning to first-team duties after it was agreed that he should look to rebuild his career elsewhere.
“All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United,” the statement reads. “It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford and we will now work with Mason to achieve that.
“Based on the evidence available, we have concluded material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for.”
