Klopp hails Szoboslzai as Liverpool advance in Carabao Cup
Dominik Szoboszlai’s brilliant goal for Liverpool on Wednesday night managed to catch the attention of Real Madrid playmaker and former Reds target Jude Bellingham. Szoboszlai has enjoyed a promising start to life at Anfield since joining Liverpool over the summer and was on target as Jurgen Klopp’s side downed Leicester City in the Carabao Cup third round.
The Reds went behind early on as Kasey McAteer opened the scoring for Leicester inside three minutes but managed to hit back through Cody Gakpo after the break. Szoboszlai then stepped up to give Liverpool the lead on 70 minutes with a pinpoint strike which arrowed into the top corner of the goal.
He managed to make a perfect connection with the ball as he swung his right foot, leaving Foxes goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk clawing at thin air. It marked the midfielder’s second goal in four games for Liverpool and prompted a response from Bellingham, who has been tearing it up for Real Madrid since joining the Spanish giants in June.
The England ace took to Instagram to hail Szoboszlai by commenting on the latter’s post after the full-time whistle. Bellingham simply wrote: “Szobooo,” accompanied by a rocket emoji to illustrate the ferocity of his powerful strike.

Bellingham was not the only person to have been left impressed by Szoboszlai’s goal against Leicester, with Sky Sports pundit Rob Earnshaw giving him a standing ovation live on air. The former Wales international was amazed by the show of brilliance and leapt to his feet before clapping and waxing lyrical during an appearance on Gillette Labs Soccer Special.
“What a goal this is! Szoboszlai – come on,” beamed Earnshaw. “It’s a rocket into the top corner. Bravo! 2-1 to Liverpool, and what a rocket. This boy is very, very good. I’ve watched him in every game this year and he’s been brilliant.

Szoboszlai’s goal allowed Liverpool to come from behind to secure a 3-1 win against Leicester, with Diogo Jota adding some gloss to the scoreline when he popped up with a third for the Reds late on. They will have high hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after being drawn at home against Blackburn Rovers, another Championship side, in round four.
