Korean Scunthorpe fan flies 5,500 miles to watch team after ‘falling in love’

A Korean Scunthorpe United fan travelled an incredible 5,500 miles to watch the non-league club in action.

Andy Ki’s love for the Iron began when he was 15 at high school in 2014. Ki would play Korea’s then-leading football game FIFA Online 3, where former Scunthorpe defender David Mirfin was one of his random players, he’d soon ‘fall in love’ and begin to follow the club.

Ki has previously attended Scunthorpe first-team training sessions and games, but with the club suffering back-to-back relegations to the National League North, Ki has continued to support them and watched at Glanford Park just days after a takeover of the club was confirmed.

The Scunthorpe super-fan was interviewed outside of the ground ahead of kick-off, where he revealed it took him 14 hours to travel from Korea to London, he continued: "Last week I saw the statement that we had to vacate our stadium after today's match and I was so sad. It's potentially the last game at Glanford Park so I had to make this decision."

Scunthorpe had announced they were moving to Gainsborough Trinity's ground. However that may no longer the case following the takeover.

The Iron were successfully taken over by local businesswoman Michelle Harness, taking over from unpopular owner and chairman David Hilton, who had previously announced he was withdrawing funding from the club and had even banned vocal fans from entering the ground.
