Man City rocked by storm as flight delayed for UCL clash with RB Leipzig

Wolves 2-1 Manchester City: Blues' winning streak stopped at Molineux

Manchester City have seen their preparations for their Champions League clash with RB Leipzig hit a snag after their flight was delayed en route to Germany. Pep Guardiola’s men were due to arrive on Tuesday ahead of their clash at the Red Bull Arena, but the competition holders have been set back in their journey across Europe due to stormy conditions grounding flights.

City have been hit by more travel chaos with their flight to Leipzig delayed due to high winds. Pep Guardiola’s side had been due to set off from Manchester arriving mid-afternoon, a day out from their Champions League Group G clash with the Bundesliga outfit.

But rough weather in Germany meant they were advised landing at Leipzig/Halle Airport in their scheduled slot was not possible, meaning they would need to take a later flight.

City chose to train early at the City Football Academy on Tuesday before fulfilling their UEFA press commitments at home before then travelling later.

Guardiola’s men won their opening Group G game against Red Star Belgrade, coming from behind to win 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. But Leipzig away always looked to be their most difficult fixture in the group stages, given they have drawn and lost to the German side in their last two visits.

City’s latest travel disruption comes after Guardiola was unhappy with having to take a coach instead of a charter flight back from Newcastle following their Carabao Cup exit last Wednesday.

That had meant an arrival back at City in the early hours of Thursday morning and a trip by coach on Friday to tackle Wolves on Saturday – another game they lost.

City are not expecting any issues with the return flight from Leipzig after the match but need all the quality recovery time they can get with a massive trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

City, who will be able to play Rodri against Leipzig, will be without their star midfielder at the Emirates as he serves out the final match of a three game ban for his red card against Nottingham Forest.
