Man Utd are making huge changes ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming into the club | Football Digest
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has already hinted at the idea of a Premier League switch after being linked with Manchester United in years gone by. The 34-year-old has stayed at Bayern for the entirety of his professional career but is thought to be growing frustrated at the Allianz Arena after being reduced to a bit-part player.
Muller has only started four Bundesliga matches since the start of the season and was left as an unused substitute in Bayern’s draw with RB Leipzig back in September. He is ‘not 100 per cent satisfied’ with his playing time under Thomas Tuchel, according to Kicker, with Jamal Musiala often getting the nod to start ahead of Muller behind lone striker Harry Kane.
The veteran forward is only contracted to Bayern until the end of the current campaign, which means that he will be able to leave for free if he wishes to take on a new challenge next summer. He has previously been linked with a potential move to United and several other Premier League clubs, although nothing has ever materialised.
The report adds that Bayern are confident of renewing Muller’s contract for at least another year, with the player said to ‘understand’ why he is no longer a sure-fire starter. However, he has already warned that he would have no qualms about leaving if the right opportunity presents itself in the future.

He told The Times: “I’m not fixed to this club. I have a special relationship, I loved Bayern before I started playing for them, but when there is a situation where you have to decide maybe to play for a different club it would be no shame and no problem at all.”
Addressing the idea of a move to the Premier League, Muller added: “I like it. But some cultures, speaking and such, special dialect, I don’t understand everything. Newcastle? Ah, I don’t know.”

It remains to be seen if United or any other Premier League team would be interested in signing Muller next season, with his leadership qualities able to offer some extra stability in any dressing room. The Red Devils once saw a lucrative offer rejected during Jose Mourinho’s time in charge, as revealed by Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen in 2017.
“There really was such a thing,” Dreeson told German media when quizzed on United’s offer, which was said to have been in the region of £85million. “Then came a fax from England. For us, however, a sale of Thomas Muller was never discussed. If a player fits us, we would be stupid to give him a short-term prospect of a record profit and to weaken him.”
Muller, meanwhile, explained last year that United saw another bid rejected when Louis van Gaal was in the dugout at Old Trafford. He told Merkur: “Bayern clearly rejected the whole thing despite this insane offer from United, [it was a] huge vote of confidence from Bayern.”
