Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment
Thousands of Manchester United supporters stayed behind at Old Trafford after the Red Devils defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday, as part of a sit-in protest over the club’s owners. The Glazers have been in negotiations to sell but very little progress has been made over the past nine months and fans have shown their frustration.
An organised protest saw fans flock to one section of the ground, staying behind long after the final whistle as chants and banners were unveiled calling for the Glazers to finally sell up.
Both Qatari Sheikh Jassim and Brit Sir Jim Ratcliffe have made offers worth over £5billion to the Glazers, but no preferred choice has been named and all parties are awaiting the family’s decision as reports had suggested that they were holding out for a higher fee.
Co-chairman Joel Glazer was among those singled out through chants, as the United fanbase made it crystal clear that it is time for the current owners to move on and end their contentious relationship with the club.

Further chants saw fans threaten to storm the pitch if the Glazers do not sell up, hinting that another demonstration could take place sooner rather than later.
Many supporters remained inside Old Trafford over 30 minutes after the whistle had blown, as supporters’ group The 1958 called on the fanbase to show their voice. They wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “If you are protesting, at the final whistle. MOVE TO THE FRONT AND CENTRE OF YOUR RESPECTIVE STAND HOLD UP YOUR FLAGS! BE LOUD, BE VISUAL, BE UNITED! Show the world we want them gone.”

Reports earlier this week had suggested that Jassim had won the race to take over from the Glazers, but those rumours now appear to have been premature and the current owners are yet to make a final decision.
The Daily Mail have insisted that no fresh progress has been made that would ensure that a sale is towards the finish line, with previous timelines stating that a completion date towards the end of the year may be optimistic.
Neither Jassim nor Ratcliffe have yet met the Glazers’ £6bn valuation and until they do there remains a significant impasse, though the Raine Group have been attempting to reach an agreement without success.
