Man Utd could replace Antony with Prem flop who only lasted two games at Everton

Manchester United are considering a shock swoop for free agent Anwar El Ghazi to solve their winger headache, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag has been left short of options out wide after Jadon Sancho's bombshell statement and Antony being placed on a leave of absence amid his allegations of violence against women.

Sancho is now expected to depart come the January transfer window with the relationship with his boss seemingly beyond repair, while Antony might well be away for a lengthy period.

The Daily Mail claim United chiefs could address the issue by snapping up former Aston Villa and Everton forward El Ghazi. They're said to be weighing up a move for him.

The 28-year-old, who has two international appearances for the Netherlands to his name, is also claimed to have offers from the Saudi Pro League, so United may have to move quickly should they want him.

After breaking through at Ajax, El Ghazi was bought by Lille aged 21 in January 2017 and went on to join Villa 18 months later. After a season on loan in the Midlands, in which he helped them earn promotion to the Premier League, they made the move permanent for £8million.

He scored 15 goals and registered five assists in 71 top-flight games before falling down the pecking order and being loaned to Everton for the second half of the 2021/22 season. El Ghazi made just two substitute appearances for the Toffees totalling 11 minutes.

Rafa Benitez's sacking just days after his arrival left him out in the cold. He exited Villa for good at the end of that campaign and scored eight times in the Eredivisie last season, but now finds himself without a club.
