Scott McTominay thought he had handed Erik ten Hag a lifeline on Saturday lunchtime when he turned the ball into the back of the Fulham net.

However, Harry Maguire was ruled as offside in the build-up to the Manchester United goal, with a controversial VAR decision that took just over four minutes. Maguire was deemed to be marginally offside when the ball was wiped into the box.

Maguire didn't touch the ball, but he did make an attempt, as Alejandro Garnacho fired the ball across the goalmouth, where it was turned in by McTominay. However, VAR didn't rule the ball offside, they instructed Jarred Gillett to make his way over the monitor to make his own call.

"So many of these decisions in crucial moments by the most minuscule of margins. Literally everything is going the other way. It’s mental," one fan fumed. While a second shared: "If that's any other side VAR don't even look at it. The agenda against us is ridiculous!"

"Shrewd move by the VAR there, pass the buck to the ref so that he gets blamed for any fallout," a rival fan joked. And another added: "VAR just makes up rules when United are playing!"
