Man Utd memorabilia worth £500k to go under the hammer including Ronaldo’s shirt

A huge collection of Manchester United memorabilia is expected to fetch in the region of half a million pounds at auction later this month.

An estimate of £500,000 has been put on the value of a huge collection of goods associated with the Old Trafford club, including shirts worn by David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and George Best. The auction will be held on Thursday, September 28 with over 650 items going under the hammer.

Graham Bud Auctions are overseeing the sales in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, with owner Paul Atkinson's collection included and expected to go for around £250,000 of the £500,000 total. Match-worn shirts include names like Paul Scholes and even a jersey worn by club icon Sir Bobby Charlton way back in 1965.

Tickets, England caps and even FA Cup tankards can also be bid on, with boots and portraits among the items with player signatures.

He added of his collection: "I never started this collection with the intention of selling it; it developed as an extension of my passion for Manchester United. Work took me to Ireland where I now live, and all my children are now grown up.

"I wanted to help my children buy a house but our old one is now housing Ukrainian refugees so, instead of selling the house, we decided it was the perfect moment to auction off the collection, and to let other United fans enjoy these relics of the club’s proud history."

The auction will take place in Wellingborough on September 28 with an auction viewing recommended to potential buyers. The auction house says: "This special sale will offer some of the rarest and most sought-after Manchester United memorabilia and ephemera relating to the iconic club."
