Man Utd star Rasmus Hojlund backed after furious rant at Dalot vs Copenhagen

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has been backed after he launched a furious rant at Diogo Dalot during Wednesday’s loss to Copenhagen. The summer signing is claimed to have let loose at the full-back late on in Denmark.

United let slip a 2-0 and 3-2 lead to lose 4-3 in a dramatic Champions League clash. Marcus Rashford was controversially sent off in the first half when the visitors were two goals to the good.

VAR’s recommendation to give Rashford a red card was upheld by the referee and the incident changed the course of the match. But United will be disappointed to have conceded two late goals after they had once again restored their lead.

Lukas Lerager took advantage of a lapse in concentration from Dalot at the back post to draw Copenhagen level. Hojlund let rip at the Portugal international for allowing Lerager to get in behind him.

Hojlund had earlier scored a brace to seemingly put United in control. And he received backing from United fans on social media following his outburst at Dalot.

On X, @cvbragg wrote: “Dalot is a defensive liability,” while @FRS33D had a similar train of thought, posting: “Dalot is a liability.”

@iAmKudaMaynard said it was a familiar mistake by Dalot, writing: “Same thing he did against Newcastle. Goes to sleep.”

@ianjprobert said: “Not surprised. Body shape all wrong.”

While @Sadique_08 put: “Just playing with a lot of confusion in him. He lost his confidence.”

Meanwhile, @Arron_Whi said it was good to see a United player calling out a team-mate, writing: “Good. About time some of them started hearing it off each other.”

Former Aston Villa captain Gabriel Agbonlahor also singled out Dalot for criticism on talkSPORT. He said: “Dalot’s defending for the third goal, again, poor defending at the far post. He saw his man there. He did it against Newcastle when [Miguel] Almiron scored that goal in the Carabao Cup.

“You see your man behind you, you wait until the ball’s kicked, and your instant reaction is ‘I’m going to run back as soon as it’s kicked because there’s space in behind me’. He doesn’t do that, poor defending, lets his team down again.”

United’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stage now hang by a thread. They will likely have to win away at Galatasaray and at home to Bayern Munich to seal second place in Group A.
