Marco Silva soaked at Man Utd game as Rio Ferdinand jokes ‘sack the groundsman’

Marco Silva was the latest to fall victim to sprinklers after the Fulham boss was soaked prior to kick-off against Manchester United on Saturday.

Fulham welcomed a fragile United side to Craven Cottage for their lunchtime Premier League game and prior to kick-off Silva came out to speak to TNT Sports on the pitch about the new contract he recently penned.

But the Portuguese gaffer got more than he bargained for as a sprinkler could be seen closing in on him in the distance. And inevitably Silva got a drenching before he was able to cower out of the way.

While Silva initially looked unimpressed, the presenting team of Lynsey Hipgrave, Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand burst into laughter, seeing Ferdinand quip: "Sack the groundsman, where is he?" Silva then joined in the joke too and continued giving his answer.

Before he took a soaking, Silva admitted it was an ‘easy’ decision to sign a new deal to stay at Fulham.

It was Silva’s first game at the Cottage since penning his extension that sees him remain under contract until 2026 after he rejected a move to the riches of the Saudi Pro League in the summer. The former Everton and Watford boss took charge of the Cottagers in 2021 – guiding them to win the Championship in his first season.

Fulham were then impressive in their first season back in the Premier League as they finished in 10th. However, it wasn’t a happy return for him after Bruno Fernandes fired in a 90th minute winner for United.

Fulham were condemned to a third league defeat in five games after the United captain fired in a well-crafted and taken finish at Bernd Leno’s near post, seeing the intense pressure on Erik ten Hag temporarily released – although United’s performance flattered to deceive yet again.
