Marcus Rashford will be available for Manchester United’s final Champions League group game.

That’s after UEFA decided against extended the forward’s ban for his red card against FC Copenhagen for an accidental stamp on Elias Jelert in the defeat to FC Copenhagen earlier this month.

The red card received widespread criticism at the time, with many claiming there’s no way the forward could have know where his opponent was as he tried to shield the ball.

Nonetheless, Rashford was given his marching orders and it has been confirmed he will miss just the solitary game against Galatasaray this week.

The decision means he could return for United’s final group game at home to Bayern Munich, but the Red Devils could find themselves out of the competition by then.

United need to hope results go their way this week as the Champions League returns, with Erik ten Hag’s side finding themselves bottom of their group at the qualification stage.

Three defeats in four games mean they have just three points so far, with Galatasaray and Copenhagen above them on four and Bayern top of the group with a perfect 12 points so far.

Defeat this week could put the Premier League side out of the competition if the result in Copenhagen’s game against Bayern Munich isn’t favourable.

They will have to try and force a result in Turkey without Rashford, however, though the England man has scored only one goal this season.

United were 2-0 up when Rashford was sent off in the game, and went onto lose 4-3 despite Bruno Fernandes’ strike.

The red card was described as ‘rough play’, leading to fears that Rashford’s ban could be extended to the rest of the group stage, but it has now been confirmed that he will miss one match.

United return to Premier League action this weekend when they will face Everton at Goodison Park.
