Mason Greenwood unveiled in Madrid to cheers from Getafe fans
Mason Greenwood has made a decent start to life as a Getafe player since leaving Manchester United on loan during the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old has rediscovered his scoring touch over the last few months, bagging three goals from nine appearances in all competitions thus far.
Greenwood made his debut for Getafe back in September, which came 20 months after his last appearance for United prior to his arrest. He was introduced in the 77th minute of a 3-2 win over Osasuna and showed flashes of the ability that had previously seen him rated as one of United’s best young players.
The forward was made to wait a few weeks to score his first goal in the 33rd minute of Getafe’s draw at Celta Vigo in early October. His other two goals for the club both came in a 12-0 thrashing of Tardienta in the first round of the Copa del Rey at the start of this month.
Greenwood’s bright start to life in Spain has sparked rumours of a permanent move to La Liga, with Sevilla said to be interested in signing him ahead of next season. His long-term future remains uncertain for now, but it certainly seems as though he may have already played his last game for United.

The one-time England striker was reportedly set to be available for United this season before the club went back on their reported stance after the idea of his return prompted a strong backlash. Greenwood has since been informed that he has no future with the Red Devils and will be sold when the campaign draws to a close, according to GiveMeSport.
United said in a statement in August: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.

“It has, therefore, been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”
Greenwood was loaned to Getafe after charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against him were dropped in February. United went on to conduct a thorough internal investigation, after which they decided to ship him out in response to backlash from fans, women’s support groups and members of staff.
