Matic names Man Utd players who were ‘always late’ to training and angered squad

Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho used to anger their Manchester United team-mates by regularly turning up late for training, according to Nemanja Matic.

The Serbian midfielder said he was shocked by the contrast in discipline between United and former club Chelsea following his £40million move to Old Trafford in 2017. Players were apparently late for training every single day and the worst offenders by far were Pogba and Sancho.

Matic, 35, revealed he had to create and head up an internal disciplinary committee to try and stamp the bad behaviour out. Though his efforts didn't seem to make much of a difference as one season he claims he collected £75,000 worth of fines.

"At Chelsea, players acted professionally, they were punctual and were never late for training but at United it happened almost every day," Matic said in an interview with YuPlanet. "Among the players who would always be late were Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho and couple of other players.

"The rest of us who were always on time were angry so we decided to form a kind of an internal disciplinary committee with me serving as its president. I put a sheet of paper up on the wall where I documented the names of individuals arriving late. During one particular season we collected around £75,000 in fines."

Pogba and Sancho both arrived at United for massive fees but failed to justify them amid bouts of poor form and indiscipline, both on and off the pitch. Sancho is currently banished for United first team training after falling out with Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman criticised his effort levels in training, and is expected to leave the club in January.

Pogba, meanwhile, left United for nothing when his contract expired in 2022 following a couple of seasons of disappointing form. He re-joined Juventus, but has played just 12 times for the Serie A giants in 18 months amid recurring injury troubles.
